Eye Exam & Consultation
During your eye exam, Dr. Schkolnick asks about any symptoms or issues you’re experiencing, medications you’re taking, blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and any previous eye or vision conditions are discussed as well. Dr. Schkolnick weighs all of this when determining treatments and recommendations.
Vision Testing
Regular vision testing keeps your sight as clear as possible. As part of a comprehensive exam, Dr. Schkolnick measures how each eye sees using a wall chart and a reading chart. Results are given as a fraction, with 20/20 being the standard for normal distance and reading vision. Depending on the outcome, Dr. Schkolnick may prescribe corrective glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.
Eye Function Testing
An exam at Caldwell Vision Center also tests how your eyes function. Dr. Schkolnick performs several tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye-muscle ability, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light, checking whether the eyes focus, move, and work together properly. These results help diagnose any underlying conditions affecting the eyes’ ability to focus or work together.
Eye Health
As part of a comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Schkolnick examines the overall health of the eye through a visual examination and tonometry. He inspects the eye and eyelids using magnification and a bright light, and may dilate the pupils to examine the eye’s internal structures. Because increased eye pressure can be an indicator of glaucoma, we use tonometry to measure it.
After completing these short tests, Dr. Schkolnick reviews the results and discusses any necessary treatment options with you.
